Farmers Agree: HCC’s Orbit Reel Shines on Short and Tough Beans

June 12, 2006

Mendota, Ill. (June 12, 2006) – Designed as an enhancement to the standard reel, the Orbit Reel eliminates the gap between the reel and auger thereby providing the most effective means for even crop feeding, in every crop condition.

Max Middlesworth, MFI Middlesworth Farms in Marion, Ind., and Barry Beetz, Sam Beetz & Sons in Mendota, Ill., have eliminated many of the headaches associated with soybean harvest by converting to the Orbit Reel from HCC.

“When the time is right, you can’t let dew or other wet conditions get in your way of harvesting a crop,” said Middlesworth. “Prior to last year’s soybean harvest, I converted my two Gleaner combines to the Orbit Reel … I learned firsthand that it promotes the most even feeding – especially on short beans and in tough conditions.”

Unlike a standard reel which drops short beans onto the platform, the Orbit Reel actually carries the crop right up and into the auger. The action is more gentle which results in very little shattering.

Beetz, who farms 3,000 acres of soybeans explained further, “The Orbit Reel does a better job of getting beans on the platform. Even on beans only about a foot tall, you’ll experience much less shattering which could very well result in increased crop yield.”

Constructed with a combination of steel and tough polymer, the Orbit Reel retrofits all HCC Reels built since 1990 and can be installed on the farm in just a few hours. It can be used on a variety of crops including soybeans, wheat, milo and rice.
